Date/Time: September 15, 2022, 15:00-17:00
Venue: Zoom

Topic: Considering strategies for new infectious diseases based on the Covid-19.
Object: Learn and think about different fields’ perspectives and solutions to real problems in society.

Feedback and Reflection

The time for group work was short and only basic issues could be discussed. Since we expected specialized discussions, we divided the group into Japanese and English separately, which required more time. In the next salon, if we know the participants in advance and divide them into groups, we will have more time for discussion.

Collect and share output from collaboration.

Salon Outline

Topic Details
First, we gave a basic description of the coronaviruses that are currently globally epidemic. Specifically, he described the structure of the virus, vaccination, and characteristics of total and point counts. Next, we introduced how to deal with Covid-19 overseas.

Group Work 1

From the standpoint of the government, companies, and researchers, how can we cope with less loss economically, medically, etc. in the event of a new infectious disease outbreak based on the Covid19 event?
In addition, we will discuss how to use the knowledge of our own research.

  • It was very interesting to hear various opinions based on the viewpoints of each person’s research field.
  • It was very good that the topics reflected the trends, but I felt that the breakout time was too short.
Group Work 2

Should a full count be conducted to determine the number of infected persons? The session was conducted in a debate format. After the group work, the group representatives were presented their results.

  • The debate format was fresh and various opinions were expressed.
  • I would have liked to discuss with another group.
  • There was not enough time.
Opinions in favor of the total number of cases
  • It is very rare for people all over the world to contract the same infectious disease at the same time, so it is important to keep the data.
  • If we stop the total count, we may miss the spread of new mutant strains of infection.
Opinions of opponents
  • It is not necessary to collect all data, but only a rough estimate is sufficient.
  • We reduce the burden of administrative work.
  • Discussed how costs can be lowered.
